This Wednesday January 31, 2018, a total Lunar Eclipse occurs at 7:27 am CST.
Not only is this a total Lunar Eclipse but this will also be a Supermoon, Blood Moon and a Blue Moon!
Astronomically, a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth crosses between the Moon and the Sun which then casts a shadow of the Earth on the Moon. A lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon and a total lunar eclipse only happens when the Moon, Sun, and Earth are perfectly lined up if it isn’t a perfect line up then it’s a partial lunar eclipse.
This is also a Blue Moon meaning it’s the second full moon within a calendar month. It’s from this rare astronomical event that we get the phrase once in a blue moon. The first full moon of this month occurred on January 1, 2018. A Supermoon event happens when the Moon is full and closest to the Earth in it’s monthly orbit making the Moon appear larger than usual.
The Blood Moon is the reddening of the Moon because the light from the Sun gets bent by the Earth’s atmosphere and scatters a red color across the Moon.
Astrologically speaking, a lunar eclipse gives us the opportunity to get honest with ourselves and others about who we really are and how we really feel. We tell the truth about ourselves. This is about owning and accepting a part of ourselves we try to disown or a part of ourselves we dislike. In certain psychological circles this disowned part of ourselves is called “the shadow”. Even if we don’t actively reveal this disowned part of ourselves it can rear it’s head unexpectedly during a lunar eclipse.
This is the perfect time to clean up our side of the street so to speak and a great way to do that is to write a resentment list. Who are you resentful toward, what happened, what is your part in the situation and what fear did this situation tap in to? I’ve done many and it’s a great way to see the patterns I keep repeating in my life.
Lastly, this lunar eclipse conjuncts the dwarf planet Ceres. The archetype for this aspect would be the Earth Mother but this isn’t the doting, enabling Mother, this is the strict Earth Mama who wants the best for her children and expects the best from her children.
So we can ask ourselves, am I mothering or smothering the people closest to me? The Empress from the Tarot deck is another good symbol for this conjunction. Both Ceres and the Empress are connected to nurturing and the physical body; so a good question to ask ourselves, how am I taking care of myself and my body? Am I nurturing myself and doing good things for my body?
