New moon in Scorpio: Face Your Fears About Intimacy
The moon will be new in the sign of Scorpio next Wednesday, November 7, at 10:02 am CST.
New moons are about new beginnings, and the sign of the new moon gives us a clue about the issues we’ll be dealing with for the next 28 days. Scorpio is an intense, deep, and mysterious sign that is linked to intimacy, sex, death, paranoia, and transformation. Scorpio is a sign caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, the scorpion needs deep and intense emotional connections to feel safe and secure, but at the same time they feel terrified of these very same deep connections. Feeling threatened when someone gets too close, Scorpio unleashes it’s legendary sting. Issues around trust, intimacy, and power are pushed into the spotlight for all of us now.
In the introduction to the spiritual text A Course in Miracles, it is stated that the course does not aim to teach the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, to remove blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. This perfectly sums up the energy of this new moon. We are at a crossroads—we crave deep, soulful connections, but to get there we’re going to have to feel vulnerable. We’re going to have to drop the blocks that keep us from feeling loved and connected. We have to become willing to give up protection of the ego, the fearful part of ourselves. However, the ego isn’t going down without a fight. Our ego would rather have us blaming others, holding on to pain from the past, and pointing out all the times we trusted the wrong people. But Scorpio is also linked to transformation. So for many of us, this new moon can serve as a rebirthing process if we are willing to admit that some of our protective habits around intimacy and relationships aren’t working. Helping us through this process, Neptune will be making a trine—an easy, flowing aspect—to this new moon and the sun.
Neptune trine the moon and the sun: Reflect & Release
Thankfully, during this challenging new moon we get a boost from Neptune. Neptune rules spirituality, psychic experiences, universal love, and bliss. Neptune connects us to higher spiritual thought. When we meditate, spend quiet time in reflection, journal, or do yoga, we are connecting with Neptune’s energy. If we’ve been holding on and trying to control everything, Neptune reminds us it is safe to let go and trust the process. When our minds take a detour into fear, it is a Neptune aspect that can shift our perception and remind us we are all souls learning lessons on this physical plane. As we take a deep breath and face some of our fears around being vulnerable during the new moon, Neptune’s aspect to the sun and moon restores our faith in ourselves and our path in life. Which leads right into our next feel-good aspect coming the day after the new moon.
Jupiter enters Sagittarius: Open Up & Expand
On the day following the new moon, November 8, Jupiter leaves Scorpio and enters the sign of Sagittarius. Jupiter is right at home here and will be in the sign of the centaur until December 3, 2019. Jupiter is the planet of good luck, good fortune, optimism, and expansion, and in the sign of Sagittarius we get a much needed hit of enthusiasm and confidence. We become willing to take risks we wouldn’t have taken a year or two years before. We become restless and crave adventure. Traveling, especially foreign travel, is good luck for us when Jupiter is in Sagittarius, and so is learning. If you’ve been thinking about going to school or taking a class, this next year will be the perfect time since Jupiter and Sagittarius both crave knowledge. Over this next year that Jupiter is in Sagittarius, it’s time to throw off the doom and gloom and embrace expansion, fun, and optimism.
While our week kicks off with a difficult new moon brimming with challenging energy that asks us to open up and dig deep in order to experience the rich intimacy we so desperately crave, we are gifted with two very positive aspects which encourage surrender, reflection, and learning to help us through the next 28 days and beyond.
