Find Your Power with the Full Moon in Scorpio

Full Moon in Scorpio: Drama vs. Security

This Saturday, May 18, the moon will be full in the sign of Scorpio at 4:11 pm CST. Full moons create a sense of tension and bring situations to a head or to completion. The tension occurs because the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree and minute. In this particular case, the sun will be in Taurus, and the moon will be in the opposite sign of Scorpio.

What’s all the tension about?

Taurus is an earth sign associated with the physical, material world. Security is of utmost importance for Taurus energy, while Scorpio is a water sign linked to deep feelings, death, change, transformation, and mystery. Both signs are related to money, and both are seeking power and control. Taurus energy feels like it’s security is threatened by Scorpio’s “emotional drama”. Taurus can become exhausted by what they perceive to be Scorpio’s need for crisis, while Scorpio finds Taurus’ need to maintain security at all cost maddening.

So, some of the themes and issues we’ll be dealing with during this full moon in Scorpio include power struggles in relationships, choosing deep change and transformation over safety and security, and a focus on finances including loans, mortgages, grants, and inheritances.

This Scorpio full moon is associated with the Seven of Cups and the Moon card.  The Seven of Cups is a card signifying emotional indulgence, depression, addiction, and moodiness. This card brings to our attention the less than productive ways we deal with difficult emotion; it reflects the unhealthy things we reach for when we’re down or overwhelmed by life. Part of the lessons for this upcoming full moon is moving through these destructive patterns.

As mentioned before this full moon falls on the 18th, and the 18th card in the tarot deck is the Moon card. This is one of the Major Arcana cards, meaning it carries special significance. It signifies a major spiritual lesson we are learning at the time of the reading. The Moon in tarot is about moving forward and making decisions from your gut. Your intuition is strong now but so is your fear. As you begin to trust yourself and your intuition, you’ll begin to move through those fears, some of which have been around since childhood.

Dreams and imagination are also linked to the Moon card. Your dreams may become more vivid and prophetic, so pay close attention to any dreams you have around the full moon. It would be a good idea to jot them down in a journal. Don’t worry if you can’t make sense of it at first, just record the dream and let the meaning come to you.
