Full Moon in Aquarius: Speak Your Mind
On Thursday August 15, at 7:29 am CST, the moon will be full in the airy sign of Aquarius. Full moons occur when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree, creating a sense of tension. Full moons are a time of completion and fulfillment. If we made a wish or set an intention two weeks ago on the new moon, it’s during the full moon that we start to see results, or at the very least, we see what is holding us back from achieving our goals.
During this full moon, we have a line-up of planets in the sign of Leo—the sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars—while the moon is in the opposite sign of Aquarius. Leo is a fire sign that is linked to self-expression, creativity, theater, and drama. While Aquarius is an air sign associated with rebellion, eccentricity, friendship, and visions of the future.
If we break this full moon down, we see that the sun and Venus in Leo is opposite the moon in Aquarius. Meaning we are weighing our needs with the needs of others. Am I taking care of others but neglecting myself? What do I want? Am I asking for what I want? What needs to be said that I’m not saying?
Mars in Leo is opposite the moon in Aquarius. Meaning we may be feeling (moon) anxious and frustrated because we’re having a difficult time expressing or asserting ourselves (Mars). If we stuff our anger (Mars), it turns inward and can create feelings (moon) of depression.
We may be feeling listless and depressed because we’re going along to get along. Aquarius is associated with the rebel and the activist and loathes the status quo. So it may be time to speak your truth. The energy of Aquarius combined with it’s opposite sign Leo is about owning, embracing, and expressing your very own unique view of life.
In the tarot deck, the moon in Aquarius is linked to the Seven of Swords. In Crowley's Thoth tarot, the Seven of Swords is called the card of futility. The suit of swords in tarot is associated with the air signs in astrology. Air signs are the thinkers and communicators of the zodiac, so the sword suit in tarot is linked to our mind and our thoughts. And as we all know, our mind can be our best friend or our worst enemy.
In the Seven of Swords, our thinking has become anxious and muddled. There is a sense of futility, and you’re having a difficult time expressing yourself. It’s the frustration you feel when you can’t find the words to express how you feel. The feeling of futility associated with this card is the “excuse tape” our mind plays, the negative self-talk. This is the if only … maybe someday I’ll … I wish … if I hadn’t … if my mother hadn’t … card. It’s the hundred and one ways our mind tries to sabotage us. In some spiritual circles, this is called the ego mind.
During this upcoming full moon, really pay attention to your negative self-talk, the ways your mind tries to sabotage you. When a negative thought comes up, thank it for sharing and let it pass on. Replace it with a positive affirmation. Fear is really at the root of it all—fear that things aren’t going to go well, fear that I won’t get what I want, fear of change. One of my favorite Louise Hay affirmations is, "Everything I need comes to me in the right time, space, and sequence. All is well in my world."
