Full Moon in Cancer

Full Moon in Cancer

The moon is on her way to being full, Tuesday December 29 in the watery sign of Cancer at 9:28 pm CST.  Full moons occur when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the same exact degree.  For this particular full moon the sun is at 8 degrees Capricorn and the moon will be in the opposite sign at 8 degrees Cancer.

Zodiac Facts: Cancer

Cancer is a water sign meaning feelings are of utmost importance.  Being both sensitive and intuitive, Cancer has a tendency to absorb the feelings of others.  Boundaries are very important for the Crab so they don’t take on others feelings and moods as their own.  While the air signs (Libra, Aquarius and Gemini) rely on their thinking, Cancers trust what they feel.

Every zodiac sign belongs to a modality.  A modality in astrology refers to the nature and attitude of a sign.  There are three modalities; cardinal, fixed and mutable.  Cancer belongs to the cardinal modality meaning they start things; they get the ball rolling so to speak.  If we didn’t have cardinal signs there would be no energy in the Universe that gets things moving.  Cardinal signs are enthusiastic about all things new.  Sometimes this results in rash and impulsive behavior so patience is a major lesson.

Every sign is associated with one of the twelve astrological houses and for Cancer this is the 4th House.  The 4th House is the part of our astrological chart that is linked to home/houses, feelings, mother, instinctual responses and childhood memories.

Each sign is ruled by a particular planet and Cancer’s ruler is the moon which technically referred to as a luminary (astrologers understand the moon isn’t an actual planet).  While the sun relates to our conscious self, the moon is associated with the unconscious self.  The moon rules instinct, habit, emotions, moods, memory and the general public.  Regarding the general public; if you know the current moon sign, you can get a good idea how people will be behaving and reacting that day.

Full Moon in Cancer

Because the sun and moon are in opposite signs during a full moon this lunar phase creates a sense of tension; it can feel as though we’re being pulled in two different directions.  The object of the game during a full moon is to find a sense of balance.  Full moons also bring situations to completion or a head.  What began two weeks earlier during the new moon can be brought to a conclusion during a full moon.  This is also the time of each month when a light is being cast on a hidden aspect of our lives, something we may have pushed aside because we don’t want to deal with it.

Since Capricorn (current sun sign) and Cancer (current moon sign) are both cardinal signs it may be time to take action.  Watery Cancer is feeling and dreamy while Capricorn is earthy and practical; it may be time to turn those fantasies dancing around in your head into a reality.

Each sign rules a particular part of the body and for Cancer that is the stomach.  Trust your gut instincts right now, your inner voice.  Instead of pushing your feelings to the side embrace them, trust them.  If you’ve been hiding your real feelings a full moon in Cancer is the perfect time to get honest with yourself and others about your true feelings.  Stuffing your feelings or pretending to feel one way when you actually feel quite different can be exhausting and unhealthy.  This brings me to the dark side of Cancer; the inability to face people and situations directly which can lead to seething resentment.  A Cancer full moon could point out that you’ve been playing the victim who feels slighted by the world; as I mentioned above full moons cast a light on the hidden aspects of our lives.  In other words it may be time to end the pity party you’ve been throwing for yourself.  Try to express your feelings in a way that isn’t overly confrontational or put the other person on the defensive.  Related to the victim stance is being overly sensitive; maybe you’ve been taking others’ comments way too seriously.

Saturn and Jupiter

On December 21, the Winter Solstice, Jupiter and Saturn moved into Aquarius and formed a conjunction meaning they were in the same sign at the same degree.  Basically, this conjunction means many of us are waking up to the restrictions placed on us by ourselves or others.  These restrictions have become intolerable and it’s time to break free.  You may have been feeling restless this year, tired of the barriers that are holding you back and this recent Jupiter/Saturn conjunction was the breaking point.  Regardless of what others think or say you can no longer tolerate the barriers, obstacles or restrictions that hold you back from the freedom you crave.  Once you take the first steps to your freedom you’ll be surprised how quickly things fall into place.
