The moon will be full on Thursday, May 7 in the watery sign of Scorpio at 5:45 am CST. A full moon occurs when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree creating a sense of tension in the environment. On this particular full moon the sun will be in Taurus while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Scorpio. Full moons bring situations to culmination and can illuminate what’s been hidden; this can include a secret we’ve been keeping or an aspect of our personality we don’t like. In certain psychological circles this aspect of ourselves we don’t like or are not conscious of is called the “shadow”. The more we’re in denial about this aspect of ourselves the more it can wreak havoc in our lives.
Both Taurus and Scorpio are known as fixed signs; in astrology fixed signs are stable, centered, “maintaining” energy that isn’t big on change. In fact on the day of the full moon, fixed energy is predominant meaning we’re apt to take a more cautious approach to life. We’ll be looking for safety and stability especially around finances since both Taurus and Scorpio rule the two astrological houses that deal with money and finances (2ndhouse and 8thhouse). With everything that’s going on in the world this would make total sense. This doesn’t mean financial ruin it just means our focus, tension and anxiety will probably center around finances. Adding to this is Venus, the ruler of Taurus, making a difficult aspect to Neptune. Venus, by association with Taurus, is about money and Neptune is linked to dreams, fantasies and nightmares so it would be easy for any of us to make up horrible stories in our heads about what is going to happen. So, we’ll need to watch our tendency to “catastrophize” everything. Chiron, the asteroid/comet/planetoid, is in Aries making this the only planet in a fire sign. With the fire element being the least represented element during the full moon our optimism and vision for the future can be a bit dimmed. So we really need to pay special attention to our thoughts wandering over to the darkside so to speak.
Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio and will be conjunct Jupiter. A conjunction means two planets are not only in the same sign but also close by degree. Pluto is the planet of transformation and deep change while Jupiter is the planet of faith and optimism; put the two together and we have the possibility of a rebirth or as brilliant astrologer Rob Hand says in Planets in Transit, a Pluto/Jupiter conjunction can bring a massive social regeneration. I think we can all agree that the current Covid-19 virus will change society on some very deep levels; the exact nature of the changes still remains a mystery (Pluto/Scorpio).
If we turn to the Tarot for another perspective we see the sign Taurus is linked to the Hierophant card and Scorpio is associated with the Death card. When the Hierophant shows up we’re dealing with life experiences that test our faith, while the appearance of the Death card tests our ability to let go. Put the two together and we’re being challenged on a grand scale to trust ourselves and each other during a time of great change.
