The moon is on her way to being full Monday November 30 in the airy sign of Gemini at 3:30 am CST. Full moons occur when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the same degree, for this particular full moon the sun is at 8 degrees Sagittarius and the moon is in the opposite sign of Gemini at 8 degrees. A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, earth and moon are lined up and the earth is between the sun and moon; lunar eclipses only occur during a full moon.
Gemini Zodiac Facts
Gemini is an air sign meaning thinking and communicating are of utmost importance. They come from a mental rather than emotional space. Like the other two air signs, Aquarius and Libra, Gemini needs mental stimulation and has a fondness for learning. Being so cerebral and mental, The Twins can have a difficult time understanding and expressing their feelings. When I started learning astrology I would often read that the air signs were the most social of the zodiac signs and were often labeled the partygoers of astrology.
Every sign belongs to a modality; in astrology a modality refers to the nature and attitude of a sign and there are three modalities, cardinal, fixed and mutable. Gemini belongs to the mutable modality meaning it’s a flexible and adaptable sign. There are four mutable signs; Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. Mutable signs tend to be accepting and tolerant because they understand there are many different sides of a situation or person. This mutable quality of openness and acceptance coupled with great communication skills (air sign quality) gives Gemini the ability to connect with and understand most people. The dark side to this open and understanding attitude is an inability to commit to or stay a certain course meaning follow-through can be difficult for them.
Every sign has a ruling planet and in the case of Gemini it’s Mercury, the messenger to the gods in Greek and Roman mythology. Each sign is also connected to one of the twelve houses and Gemini’s house is the 3rd house, the sector of your astrology chart associated with communication, learning, and how a person uses their mind. Interestingly, siblings and short trips are also linked to the 3rd house.
Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Zodiac Facts
Being that the sun and moon are in opposite signs during a full moon, there tends to be an air of tension. We can feel like we’re being pulled in two different directions and our goal is to try and find some balance. Full moons bring situations to a head and have an air of completion about them. Eclipses occur four to six times a year and bring about transformation and change, sometimes big change in our lives. Astrologer Susan Miller calls eclipses the drama queens of astrology. Since lunar eclipses only happen during a full moon you can think of them as “hyped-up”, dramatic full moons. Both full moons and lunar eclipses can cast light on what is hidden. Maybe there’s something we don’t want to deal with so we push it to the side or sweep it under the rug so to speak so, during a full moon, lunar eclipse we may be forced to deal with this hidden aspect of our lives. One thing to remember, dealing with this shadow side of our lives is a process and not a one-time event. A lunar eclipse or a full moon can trigger the beginning of the process.
Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse in Gemini
Since we’re dealing with an opposition here we have to think about Gemini (full moon sign) in contrast to Sagittarius (current sun sign). As mentioned earlier, Gemini is very cerebral and likes to examine all the details and facts of a situation while Sagittarius, a fire sign, likes to think in broader terms; they see the bigger picture. Sagittarius is philosophical by nature and like most fire signs, has a very enthusiastic approach to life. Unlike Gemini, Sagittarius can view details and facts as pesky and unimportant and just move them out of the way because they interfere with the Centaur’s broader vision of what could be. The common ground between Gemini and Sagittarius they are both mutable signs and there is a love of learning since both signs are associated with education on some level. Another similarity between these two is there love of reaching out and connecting with others.
I’m going to keep the interpretation quite simple; I think we’re all being asked to examine what we believe and this includes blind spots in our philosophies about life. Some of us may be getting lost in the details while others of us may be blinded by the beauty of a broad, bigger picture with the pesky details removed. Maybe some of us have stopped communicating (Gemini) with a friend or family member because they believe (Sagittarius) differently than we do and we feel it’s time to re-connect but don’t know how. Years ago the person who introduced to me to a completely different way of seeing the world, told me the definition of humility is the willingness to remain teachable. I’ve never forgotten that and I think it’s a perfect sentiment for a full moon, lunar eclipse in Gemini.
