Full Moon in Virgo: The Devil is in the Details
The moon will be full this Tuesday, February 19th, at 9:54 am CST in the sign of Virgo. Full moons occur when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the same degree and minute, creating a sense of tension in our lives, illuminating what’s been hidden, and bringing situations to completion. A supermoon is a full moon or new moon that is closest to the earth during the moon’s orbit, making it appear unusually large.
Virgo is an earth sign and the natural ruler of the 6th house in astrology—the house of health. During a Virgo full moon, the mind/body connection can be quite strong. That means our bodies may require extra care at this time. Some parts of the body that can become more sensitive during this moon are the pancreas, colon, and small intestine. It’s important during a moon like this to listen to your body’s signals and take any and all steps necessary to maximize your health and well-being.
Work and employment are also associated with the 6th house. So, you may need to pause and take a breath and an honest look at your current work situation. Are you comfortable but bored? Do you feel like you need to stretch and challenge yourself? Is your health suffering because you’re burning the candle at both ends? If you find something is amiss in your career, it may be that you are in the process of preparing for a major shift in this area of your life. What steps can you take now to get things moving in the right direction again?
Habits, details, and daily routines likewise fall under the rule of Virgo and the 6th house. In the ’90s, I was addicted to chasing mind-blowing spiritual experiences. I begrudgingly did things like wash the dishes, pay the bills, and cut the grass. How boring! It would be years later before I realized that taking care of the details of day to day living was also valuable and could be spiritual. Next Tuesday’s full moon in Virgo is a time to bring it down to earth—get reflective and meditative while doing something practical. The Buddhist say chop wood, carry water and 12-steppers say do the next thing in front of you. In other words, find the spiritual in the ordinary.
Virgo can be a high-strung sign prone to bouts of anxiety. When you take that anxiety and combine it with those Virgo keywords I mentioned earlier—habits, details, and daily routines—there is a tendency to focus on your shortcomings. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, part of Virgo’s mission is to recognize what isn’t working, or what isn’t efficient. Pay special attention to the shortcomings brought to the surface during this full moon. They may not be easy or pleasant to look at, but they hold the clues to the ways you are sabotaging your own success or potential.
