Lean Into the Full Moon in Libra

Lean Into the Full Moon in Libra

Full Moon in Libra + Spring Equinox: Learning to Let Go

The moon will be full on Wednesday, March 20, in the sign of Libra at 8:43 pm CST. During a full moon the sun and moon are exactly opposite one another by sign and degree causing a sense of tension. This tension, coupled with the full moon’s ability to illuminate what’s been hidden, will often bring a situation to completion. It’s during a full moon when everything, including parts of ourselves we don’t like, comes out into the open.

This day is also the astrological New Year known as the Spring Equinox; winter is officially over as the sun moves into the fiery sign of Aries. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is linked with new growth and new beginnings. As we say good-bye to winter, we’re also letting go of the past. The Spring Equinox is one of the most potent times of the year to set new goals and new intentions.

Libra: Time for a Relationship Tune-Up

Libra is an air sign that is the natural ruler of the seventh house of relationships, and the tarot card linked to this particular Libra full moon is the Two of Swords. In traditional tarot imagery, this card has a woman sitting on a beach with the ocean behind her. She is blindfolded with two swords crossing her chest. In tarot, water (the ocean) represents feelings and emotions, the blindfold represents what we don’t want to see, and the number two represents harmony, balance, and relationships. When you put all of this in your cosmic blender and mix it up, you get relationship issues you’re trying to avoid.

For some, this will mean attempting to find the balance between opposing viewpoints. You may have to step out of judgement and try seeing the situation from the other’s position. Or, you may find you are playing the psychological game of projecting. Instead of owning a part of yourself you don’t like, you project it onto another and see in them what you dislike about yourself. In this case, you need to take a hard look inside and make peace with that part of you the world keeps mirroring in others. This reminds me of lesson 28 in the spiritual text, A Course in Miracles. “Above all else, I want to see things differently.”

For others, you may be using compromise as a way to avoid confrontation, giving in so much that you’ve lost your identity in the relationship. If you fear being alone, this upcoming full moon could push you to face that fear and reclaim your identity. As Codependent No More author Melody Beattie states in her book, The Language of Letting Go, “I used to spend so much time reacting and responding to everyone else that my life had no direction. Other people’s lives, problems, and wants set the course of my life. Once I realized it was okay for me to think about and identify what I wanted, remarkable things began to take place in my life.”

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces: Finding Closure

March 5 – March 28

Mercury, the planet of communication and the mind, began its retrograde motion in the water sign of Pisces on March 5, and will continue as such until March 28. Just as Aries is the first sign in the zodiac, Pisces is the final sign. It is the natural ruler of astrology’s twelfth house. Both Pisces and the twelfth house are related to endings, closure, psychic experiences, and the subconscious. The last astrological house on the block can be thought of as your very own sanctuary, a place where you get some time to yourself to contemplate some of the larger questions looming over your life, especially the transitional times where you are closing the door on one phase of your life to begin a new phase. You may be contemplating the end of a career, job, or even a relationship.

As you look for answers during this current Mercury retrograde, it’s important to remember that in the domain of Pisces and the twelfth house, the Universe doesn’t always speak in plain English—symbols are the preferred mode of communication. So pay attention to your dreams, or numbers that you keep seeing on a repeated basis. Maybe a particular animal keeps crossing your path, or a particular word may continue to come up in all of your conversations? Spend some time reflecting on these symbols and what they may be saying about upcoming changes in your life. You don’t have to make a decision right now, just observe and jot down the symbols that keep appearing.
