New Moon in Aries: Make a Wish
The moon will be new in the fiery sign of Aries on Friday, April 5, at 3:50 am CST. New moons are about new beginnings, and Aries being the first sign of the zodiac makes this particular new moon especially potent when it comes to starting fresh, making wishes, and setting your intentions. A great ritual to do on the new moon is to write out your wishes, or what you’d like to see manifest in your life. Where in your life are you ready to let go of the old and welcome the new?
Aries, ruled by Mars—the Roman god of war—accepts anger and aggression as a part of life. Anger can be a warning sign that you’ve been allowing others to take advantage of you and it’s time to stand up for yourself. What’s making you angry? Where in your life are you at wits end and have had enough? What are you no longer willing to put up with?
Courage is another keyword linked with Aries. Maybe you’ve been contemplating a change in your life, but the thought of taking that first step is too overwhelming. The energy of this new moon in Aries can give you a much needed boost of courage to take that leap of faith.
The tarot card associated with this particular moon is the Three of Wands. In the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck there is a figure standing on a cliff looking out to sea with three wands with three blooming buds on each wand, and in the distance you can see three ships. The suit of Wands in tarot is associated with action, passion, and will. While the number three is linked to creativity, growth, and abundance. This is a good-fortune card, indicating success in business enterprises—your “ships are coming in.” Those ideas you’ve had are starting to take form, the right people and contacts start to show up, and there is a sense of enthusiasm and optimism about your future. Sure there is more work to be done, but a major corner has been turned.
If you are an Aries, this is your best time. You’re more likely to get your way during this new moon so go for what you want.
If you are a Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius—you’re what is known in astrology as a fixed sign, meaning you typically aren’t big on change. So this new moon in Aries could feel a little more threatening, but it may give you the kick in the pants you need to get out of your comfort zone.
If your sun sign falls in another one of the seven houses, you are likely to experience this new moon as advantageous, but with a little less ease than Aries themselves.
Libras are the one exception here. If you’re a Libra, an Aries moon is difficult for you because it opposes your Sun. Your low point each month is when the moon enters Aries, so it’s best to lay low and get some rest. Go ahead and think about the changes you’d like to see happen, write out your wishes and intentions, but wait for the moon to move out of Aries before taking action. It’s only a couple of days after that before you’re good to go.
Mercury Retrograde: Starting on the Right Foot
Mercury went retrograde on March 5, and will go direct Thursday, March 28. This retrograde occurred in the sign of Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac—closure, release, and letting go were the major themes. This week is the time to tie up loose ends, complete unfinished business, and clean up behind yourself so that you are free to move into the next phase without any karmic baggage holding you back.
The next Mercury retrograde will take place July 8 – August 2.
