The moon will be new on March 24 2020 at 4:28 am CST in the fiery sign of Aries. New moons are the perfect time to make wishes and set new intentions. A new moon occurs when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the exact same degree, in astrology this is known as a conjunction; for this particular lunation the sun and moon are in the sign of Aries. Being the first sign of the zodiac, I feel the Aries new moon is the most potent time of the year for wish making and new beginnings. Aries is a cardinal sign and belongs to the fire element, meaning the ram is action oriented and needs to initiate things. The first day of Aries is always the day of the spring equinox. Every sign is ruled by a planet and for Aries that planet is Mars, a warrior like planet of courage, desire, vitality, energy, and assertion. Thrilling and dramatic Aries arrives on the scene letting us know we’ll be leaving behind the soft, vulnerable, and misty energy of Pisces. It’s time for action exclaims the new moon in Aries. You begin to feel a fire burning inside; inspiration replaces boredom and restlessness. Be willing to release those thoughts you’ve been using to terrorize yourself; I’ve waited too late, I missed my opportunity, that door closed a long time ago. Your thinking, the thoughts you choose, are very important right now. Just like the Magician in the tarot, the approaching Aries new moon reminds you of the importance and power in directing your thoughts, as the 1920s New Thought author Florence Scovel Shinn said, your word is your wand. You’re at a crossroad and decisions must be made. When making a decision ask yourself, am I making this choice out of fear or love? No matter how many times you got it wrong in the past or chose fear over love, an Aries new moon reminds all of us, you can always choose again. We’ll keep doing the same thing over and over until we choose differently.
Saturn enters Aquarius
On March 21 Saturn leaves the sign of Capricorn and enters the airy sign of Aquarius for the next 2 ½ years. Aquarius is a humanitarian sign that reminds us we’re all in this together. We’re pushed to think in terms of we instead of me. This is especially pertinent as we all face a global health crisis. Part of the Civil Rights Movement was the March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his infamous I Have A Dream speech. This took place on August 28, 1963 when Saturn was transiting Aquarius. Saturn in Aquarius is also linked to major technological advances; the World Wide Web was made public on August 6, 1991 when Saturn was in the sign of the Waterbearer.
Many have wondered if there is an astrological link with the current Covid-19 outbreak. Saturn and Pluto seem to offer us some clues. Saturn and Pluto were conjunct, meaning in the same sign and at the same degree, this past January in the sign of Capricorn. When we look back in history we find the last time these two were conjunct was in the early 1980s when the AIDS epidemic began. So this is twice now in the past 40 years where a Saturn/Pluto conjunction brought with it an epidemic. As I mentioned earlier Saturn is moving into Aquarius and separating from Pluto in Capricorn; hopefully we’ll see a technological or scientific breakthrough concerning this worldwide pandemic.
