The moon will be new Monday July 20th in the sign of Cancer at 12:33 pm CST. New moons are about new beginnings and it’s the perfect time to make a wish or set new intentions. New moons occur when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the exact same degree. Sunday, July 19 is the dark moon, a time to get quiet, meditate and clear out what is no longer useful in our lives. The dark moon is a great time to clean out your closets or a couple of drawers. This clearing out process is like a magical ritual; you’re putting the Universe on notice that you are ready to let go and make room for the new.
This new moon occurs in the sign of Cancer. Cancer is a water sign meaning feelings are center stage. Cancer is also the natural ruler of the 4th House, the part of the astrological wheel that is linked to family, emotions, home and mother. Making wishes and setting intentions around home and family is especially potent during a Cancer new moon. If you’ve thought about selling your home, buying a home or both; the new moon in Cancer is the time to put that intention out into the Universe. If you’ve had problems and tensions in the family, this is the moon to set an intention for family harmony. Setting up a meditation room or just a private place for you in your home is another good idea for this moon.
As I mentioned before Cancer is a feeling sign and the moon is associated with our emotional life and what we need to feel safe and contented in our lives. However, both Cancer and the moon have a darker side. This darker face shows it’s self when playing it safe prevents us from growing. During a new moon in Cancer it can be brought to our attention that we’re stuck, we’ve stopped taking chances, we’re playing it too safe. Nothing is really wrong in our lives; from the outside everything looks fine but on the inside we’re feeling flat, lethargic and depressed. It’s during this new moon that you realize your current “contentment” is really boredom and lethargy. You may need a shot of inspiration to revitalize your passion and get you out of a rut.
Saturn, the planet of restriction and karma will be opposing this new moon. Oppositions are difficult aspects in astrology and a Saturn/Moon opposition can bring to our attention that we’ve become a zombie; we’ve just been sleepwalking through life. Maybe our needs have changed, what once worked and gave us a sense of safety is now the very thing that is holding us back. It’s during a Saturn/Moon opposition that we realize we need to clear out the emotional clutter and make some necessary adjustments. Burn-out is another common theme during a Saturn/Moon opposition. That feeling of being drained and lethargic could signal you’ve been burning the candle at both ends and it’s time to make a change to your schedule or possibly your job. Saturn is a slow and patient planet so you don’t have to make grand, sweeping changes; that’s not Saturn’s style. Saturn just wants you to get real about what’s going on in your life.
