New Moon in Scorpio

New Moon in Scorpio

The moon is on her way to being new this Sunday November 15 in the watery sign of Scorpio.  For those of us in Houston this new moon will actually occur late Saturday night the 14th at 11:06 pm CST.  A new moon occurs when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the same degree; this is known as a conjunction in astrology.  For this particular lunation the sun and moon will be at 23 degrees Scorpio.

Scorpio Zodiac Facts

Scorpio is a water sign meaning feelings are of utmost importance.  Water signs tend to be intuitive and very sensitive to their environment; they can absorb their surroundings including the feelings and moods of others. Scorpio is an intense and complex water sign that can feel overwhelmed by deep and intense feelings.  Every sign is associated with a house in astrology and Scorpio is linked to the deep, gothic and mysterious 8th House.  This is the sector of our chart that deals with death.  In the mystical tarot deck card number thirteen, the Death card, is linked to the sign Scorpio.  This rarely symbolizes actual physical death but instead speaks to the times in our lives when we go through a major change. The tarot’s Death card and astrology’s 8th House relate to the process of letting go so the process of transformation can take place. Other signatures of the 8th House are sex, intimacy, depth psychology and the occult. Money is also associated with the 8th House; taxes, inherited money, insurance, corporate money and joint finances like those found in a marriage or business partnership.

Pluto is the planetary ruler of Scorpio and the 8th House.  In Greek and Roman mythology, Pluto was the ruler of the Underworld reiterating the mystery and depth of this 8th sign of the zodiac.  Many modern day astrologers and depth psychologist see the mythological Underworld as a symbol of the subconscious.

Every sign has a particular nature, an attitude that’s called a modality in astrology.  There are three modalities in astrology cardinal, fixed and mutable.  Along with Aquarius, Taurus and Leo, Scorpio is a fixed sign meaning the Scorpion has staying power.  In fact, another symbol for Scorpio is the mythological Phoenix bird and just like the Phoenix Scorpio can rise from the ashes; they may be down but never out.

New Moon in Scorpio

New moons are about new beginnings.  This is the time each month to make a wish or set an intention.  Since Scorpio is associated with endings and death, we can ask ourselves what needs to end in our lives, what are we afraid to let go of.  As mentioned earlier Scorpio is a deep, intense water sign meaning emotions are important so expect to feel on a deeper level. Experiencing life on a feeling level is what we need during a Scorpio new moon.  Maybe you’re playing hide and seek with your feelings.  What feelings are swirling around inside you that you’re afraid to embrace or admit to? Scorpio energy isn’t afraid of the dark.  It’s best to get a handle on these suppressed feelings before they explode on everyone and everything in your path.  Take a deep breath and be willing to let some things go.  Under the influence of Scorpio energy we’ll do much better if we accept change instead of fighting it.

Malachite is the stone for this new moon; not only is it a stone associated with Scorpio but it’s beautiful green color links it to the heart chakra.  In her book The Essential Guide to Crystals, Minerals and Stones author Margaret Lembo says working with malachite helps us discover and release the repeated patterns that hold us back.  In keeping with it’s heart chakra connection, malachite helps us identify destructive or counterproductive patterns in our relationships.  Adding to the relationship theme, Venus the goddess of love and beauty will be making a difficult aspect to Pluto during this new moon.  A Venus/Pluto aspect can force us to accommodate changes in a relationship.  Trying to hold on or resisting these changes in our relationship can prove to be quite painful.

Scorpio isn’t just linked to feelings, as mentioned before it also has a connection to money. On a material level some of us will be concerned about our finances, especially joint financial situations like your spouse or business partner.

Mars Retrograde

Mars has been retrograde since September 13 and will finally go direct November 14.  If you’ve been feeling blocked or stuck, Mars direct can get things moving again.
