New Moon in Scorpio

New Moon in Scorpio

The moon is on her way to being new this Thursday November 4 in the watery sign of Scorpio at 4:15 pm CST.  New moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the exact same degree; this is known as a conjunction in astrology.  For this particular new moon the sun and the moon will be at 12 degrees Scorpio.  New moons are associated with new beginnings and are a perfect time to set new intentions and to make wishes.  The day before the new moon is known as the dark moon.  Traditionally, divination like pulling oracle or tarot cards is especially potent during the dark moon phase.  This is also a good time energetically to clear out a closet or drawer signaling to the Universe that you are ready for new beginnings.

Zodiac Facts:  Scorpio and the New Moon

Every astrological sign belongs to one of the four elements and Scorpio belongs to the water element meaning feelings, sensitivity and psychic powers take center stage. Out of the three water signs (Pisces and Cancer are the other two) Scorpio tends to be the most secretive and guarded when it comes to their feelings.  Scorpio energy has a probing psychological vibe meaning they are able to see the deep recesses of another’s soul.  So this Scorpio new moon is the perfect time to put yourself on Freud’s couch, delve deep and get honest about what you’re really feeling.  As a side note Freud had Scorpio rising in his natal chart.  Scorpio picks up on other’s insecurities and for those who aren’t comfortable in their own skin it can feel a bit invasive.  It's not that Scorpio enjoys putting others on edge, they just have an insatiable curiosity when it comes to finding out what makes another person tick.

Every sign belongs to a modality.  In astrology the modality of a sign refers to that sign’s attitude and nature and there are three modalities; cardinal, fixed or mutable.  Scorpio belongs to the fixed modality meaning they have tremendous staying power; they don’t give up easily.  However this fixed nature combined with this sign’s watery feeling energy makes them prone to a certain level of paranoia, Scorpions tend to come into this world with issues around trust.  This can be a control issue, another Scorpio specialty, so where in your life do you need to release your grip?  Are you being paranoid, afraid that others are out to get you?  Think about your imagination; is it working for you or against you right now?

Each zodiac sign has a planetary ruler and Scorpio’s ruling planet is Pluto, Lord of the Underworld in Roman mythology and his name was Hades in Greek mythology.  Pluto was an intense and mysterious god and could spend large amounts of time to himself.  In astrology, Pluto is associated with deep change, upheaval and death.  When Pluto is making an aspect to the sun or moon in our natal chart or to one of our personal planets like Mercury, Venus or Mars, we can experience change that alters our lives in a significant way. Currently, Pluto is transiting the sign of Capricorn until January 21, 2024.  If you have planets in Capricorn, Libra, Cancer or Aries you’ve probably had your fair share of drama over the last several years; that’s because Pluto in Capricorn has been making aspects to those four signs.  Also, our country came into being when Pluto was in Capricorn which means the United States is in the throes of it’s Pluto return.  As a nation we are looking at what we value, what’s important to us and what needs a complete overhaul.

Each sign rules one of the twelve houses and for Scorpio it’s the 8th House; the sector of the astrological wheel that deals with death, sex, regeneration, deep psychological complexes, the occult and joint finances.  When we have major transits in this particular house of our natal chart we can expect deep and sometimes very intense change.

Uranus opposing the New Moon

Uranus the planet of the unpredictable, disruption and the odd will be opposing this new moon to the exact degree.  The opposition is a difficult aspect and can make you excitable so you have to make sure you don’t jump to unwarranted conclusions especially in your relationships with others.  You may find yourself being impatient and restless and if you aren’t careful this could lead to an argument.  If you’re feeling edgy on the day of the new moon take a deep breath and know this is a phase and this too shall pass.
