New Moon in Virgo: Make a Wish
The moon is on her way to being new, Friday, August 30, at 5:37 am CST, in the earthy sign of Virgo. New moons are about new beginnings and putting the past behind you. The energy of a new moon is the perfect time to make wishes and set new intentions. Once you’ve made your wish list, turn it over to the Universe, you’ve done your part. Don’t worry about how these things are going to manifest; the Universe will take care of the how. Especially potent during a Virgo new moon are intentions that involve your work life, health matters, diets, pets, decluttering, and organizing.
On the day of the new moon we have a stellium—a line-up of planets—in the sign of Virgo. Not only are the sun and moon in the sign of the Virgin, but so are Mercury, Mars, and Venus. As I mentioned before, Virgo is an earth sign, meaning practicality, hard work, and physical results you can see with your own eyes are a priority. Earth signs help the rest of us stayed present and grounded in the moment. When we get Virgo energy right, we have the courage to show up for the life that is right in front of us, we’re of service to others, and we strive for excellence.
When we deny Virgo energy or get it wrong, we become hyper-critical of ourselves and others, we spend time pining for a life we wish we had instead of embracing the one we’ve been given, and we try to control everything and everyone around us. If we’re looking to make a change during a Virgo new moon, we can start the process by accepting the people and circumstances in our lives exactly as they are.
The tarot card linked to this new moon in Virgo is the Eight of Pentacles. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the Eight of Pentacles shows a craftsman hard at work. He is very focused on the task at hand. The Eight of Pentacles and the new moon in Virgo remind us that practice makes perfect. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the process of learning art, music, astrology, tarot, or writing—keep at it says the Eight of Pentacles. Continue honing your skills. It’s only through practice that we become masters at our craft.
The Sun, Moon, Mars, and Uranus: Take it Easy
During the new moon Uranus will make a nice, flowing aspect to the sun and moon. Here we become inventive and creative. We embrace our unique individuality. We know something, but we don’t know how we know it—we get brilliant flashes of insight.
Mars will conjunct the sun and moon. A conjunction in astrology is when two planets are right next to one another by degree and sign. When Mars aspects the sun and moon, we get a boost of energy, our emotions are turned up and we feel we can take on the world. We become willing to take a leap of faith.
Throughout the day of the new moon, the moon will form aspects to the sun, Uranus, Mars, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Neptune. This makes for a very active day emotionally. Try not to take anything too personal on this day, as everyone’s emotions are likely to be running on high. This is a day to remind yourself that this too shall pass.
