New Moon in Cancer + Solar Eclipse: Trust Your Vibes
Tuesday, July 2, the moon will be new in the watery sign of Cancer. This will also be a solar eclipse. The moon is the natural ruler of Cancer, so she is right at home in the sign of the crab. New moons occur when the sun and moon are in the exact same sign and degree and are linked to new beginnings. Solar eclipses occur when the new moon passes between the sun and earth, partially or totally blocking out the sun. This will be a total solar eclipse, blocking out all of the sun.
Visually, only parts of South America will be able to see this eclipse. With the sun blotted out, the moon and all things connected to the moon—like emotion, psychic power, dreams, and feminine energy—will now take center stage. It’s important to take a moment and really listen to yourself. What is your psychic vibe trying to tell you? Where or what parts of your life need an ending and a new beginning?
Sometimes, when you don’t act, a solar eclipse will push you onto a new path and a new beginning. It may feel sudden or out of the blue, but deep down you knew this change was much needed.
The Tarot card associated with this solar eclipse is the Three of Cups. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the card is depicted with three women holding up a cup and dancing in celebration. This is a card of friendship and celebration reminding us we don’t have to do everything alone. We do have supportive people around us, and during a new moon/solar eclipse there could be new friendships forming.
In the coming week, some of us will be receiving an invitation to or attending a wedding or party. Overall, this is a very happy little card reminding us to count our blessings and to be grateful for the loving connections we have in our life. A great and effective spiritual practice right now would be making a gratitude list—spending some time each morning or evening writing down all the things you are grateful for in your life. I know the recent Mercury/Mars conjunction over the last week has been tumultuous and difficult for a lot of people, and making a list of the people and things in your life you’re grateful for is a great way to start the healing process.
In numerology, we take the universal year number—which in this case is a 3 (2+0+1+9=12, 1+2=3)— and add it to July (3+7=10, 1+0=1), making July a universal 1 month. The number one is about new beginnings, so this energy goes perfectly with our upcoming solar eclipse. July is a month to take action, to take back control of your life if you’ve given your power away. Something new is birthing in your life.
Mercury retrograde: Blessings in Disguise
Mercury retrograde will be July 8—July 31, so don’t let the negativity of others or a change in plans hold you back. Set your intentions and allow life to unfold. A loss or a change in plans could actually be a blessing in disguise.
