The moon will be full in the early morning hours of Friday March 14 in the earthy sign of Virgo at 1:55 am CST. Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree; for this lunation the sun will be at 23 degrees of Pisces while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Virgo at 23 degrees. In astrology the moon is linked to our emotions and moods so when the moon is full we can feel full of emotions.

This full moon is also a lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses occur when the earth is between the sun and moon casting a shadow that dims or darkens the moon’s surface. Sometimes during this process the moon will take on a deep orange or red color hence the term Blood Moon. You can think of a lunar eclipse as a hyped-up, dramatic full moon. If we’re hiding something or in denial about something in our lives a lunar eclipse can come along and force us to deal with this issue. In ancient cultures a Blood Moon was seen as a sign that danger is approaching or the possibility of war. In our modern culture a Blood Moon is often seen as a time of deep transformation and change. It can also be a sign that it’s time to bring closure to a situation in your life.

Pisces plays a big role in this coming lunar eclipse. While the full moon occurs in Virgo it’s opposed by the sun, Saturn, Neptune and the North Node in Pisces. Pisces is a water sign meaning feelings, relationships, sensitivity and intuition take center stage while Virgo is an earth sign meaning practicality, results, plans and reality are of utmost importance. The opposition between Pisces and Virgo is a battle between the ethereal, mysterious and spiritual (Pisces) and the practical and earthy (Virgo).

Virgo is linked to health and cleanliness so it only makes sense that a full moon in Virgo wants you to do just that, focus on self-care of your body. Maybe it’s time to cleanup your act with exercise or changing your diet. Doing some spring cleaning and getting yourself organized in your living or work space would be right up Virgo’s alley. Virgo is the natural ruler of the 6th House on the astrological wheel. This is the angle on the wheel that deals with our daily routines. During this full moon in Virgo some of us may find our daily schedule is overloaded or as we like to say, we have too much on our plate. It could be time to prioritize what really matters and giving ourselves a break by postponing, delegating or letting go of the rest.

Mercury Retrograde, March 15 – April 7

Mercury the planet of communication begins retrograde motion the day after the lunar eclipse. This retrograde starts in the fiery sign of Aries so it’s best we watch what we say. Fiery signs like Aries can be impulsive and combined with the planet of communication can make for arguments, disagreements and saying things we may later regret. On March 29 Mercury retrogrades back into the watery and dreamy sign of Pisces. When we combine Mercury retrograde with imaginative Pisces our minds can wander; sometimes this is great for creative projects but it can just as easily get out of hand as we dream-up all kinds of horrible scenarios. During this time it’s best to keep in mind what the late-great new age author Louise Hay would tell her audience, “stop scaring yourself, just stop it!”

Take care everyone. Have a great full moon lunar eclipse and we hope to see you in the store soon.
