The moon is on her way to being full this Thursday August 11 in the airy sign of Aquarius at 8:36 pm CST.  Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree.  For this particular full moon the sun will be at 19 degrees Leo while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Aquarius at 19 degrees.  Because of this opposition we can feel like we’re are being pulled in two different directions and our goal is to try and find some balance in the polarity.

Zodiac Facts: Leo & Aquarius

Since there are two signs involved (Leo and Aquarius) we’ll be looking at what these two have in common and what is different.  Every astrological sign belongs to one of the four elements; fire, earth, air or water.  Leo belongs to the fire element meaning passion, enthusiasm and courage take center stage while Aquarius belongs to the air element meaning analysis, communication and making connections with others is of utmost importance.  Air (Aquarius) fans the fiery flames of Leo creating an atmosphere of inspiration and filling our minds with amazing creative ideas.  However, we can easily exhaust ourselves under these conditions because we lack focus so grounding our energy becomes important during this full moon.  We can ground and focus ourselves by taking a few deep breaths.  Also, Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) will be making a difficult aspect to this lunation adding a sense of excitement and anxiety.  If you work with crystals and stones; hematite would be excellent for this full moon because of its grounding qualities.  The weak element in this full moon chart is water; Neptune is the lone planet in a water sign right now.  Accessing our feelings might be a bit more difficult right now.  If you feel overwhelmed by your emotions you may opt to repress them or shut them down.  Journaling can help by getting your feelings out on the page or taking a nice bath (water) can help in reconnecting with the water/feeling element.

Zodiac & The Tarot: Six of Swords

The tarot card associated with this full moon is the Six of Swords.  In the Thoth Tarot this card is called Science.  The Six of Swords represents the focused, intentional and objective mind meaning it’s important that we see things as they truly are and not as we’d like them to be.  Seeing the bigger picture and not getting bogged down in the details is another important aspect of this card.

Zodiac Modalities: Fixed

Each zodiac sign belongs to one of the modalities; cardinal, fixed or mutable.  The modality gives you clues to that sign’s nature and attitude.  Aquarius and Leo belong to the fixed modality meaning both signs have staying power; they stay the path come hell or high water.  The shadow side of the fixed modality is getting stuck in ruts and routines as a way to avoid change.  In fact, during this full moon we have six planets in the fixed modality (sun, moon, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Uranus) along with the North Node.  Knowing when to let go of a person or situation may be a major issue right now along with our stubbornness in the face of change.  What is holding me back? Who or what am I afraid to let go of?  Where am I resisting change?  are good questions to ask ourselves this week.

Ruling Planet: Uranus & the Sun

Each astrological sign has a ruling planet and for Aquarius that planetary ruler is Uranus.  Being true to the oddball and eccentric energy of Aquarius, Uranus is the only planet that rotates on its side.  Uranus is known in certain astrological circles as the Great Awakener and when this planet is triggered in our chart we can expect some strange and unexpected happenings.  Keywords associated with Uranus are rebellion, genius, freedom, liberation revolution, the unusual, science and scientists.  Currently, Uranus is in Taurus and as mentioned earlier it will be making a difficult aspect to the full moon meaning no more playing by others’ rules and expectations; we are determined to do things our way.

The sun is the planetary ruler of Leo.  The sun is the most important part of our chart; it’s the first thing most of us learn in astrology.  Our sun sign represents who we are becoming and sometimes we have to fight for that right to be who the Universe intended us to be.  Both the sun and Uranus highlight our individuality, doing things our way.  If we’ve forgotten, the sun and Uranus remind us its quite alright to be yourself.
