The moon is on her way to being full this Tuesday March 3 in the earthy sign of Virgo at 5:38 am CST. Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree; for this particular full moon the sun will be at 12 degrees Pisces while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Virgo at 12 degrees. In astrology the moon is associated with feelings and moods so when the moon is full our feelings can feel full and at times overwhelming.
On the physical level a full moon can bring a situation in our lives to completion. Full moons can illuminate what was previously hidden or kept secret. Release and letting go of what no longer serves us is also linked to full moons. As mentioned above this is also a lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses occur on full moons when the earth is between the sun and moon casting a shadow that dims or darkens the moon’s surface.
This particular lunar eclipse is also a blood moon meaning the moon will pass completely into the Earth’s shadow casting a deep, reddish or copper color onto the moon. This blood moon color will last for about an hour. You can think of a lunar eclipse as a more dramatic full moon. In ancient cultures the blood moon was seen as a harbinger of danger or war. In our modern culture a blood moon is often seen as a time of deep transformation and change. It can also be a sign that it’s time to bring closure to a situation in our lives.
Elements: Virgo belongs to the earth element meaning this is a sign that places practicality and physical, tangible results at center stage. This Virgo moon is opposed by a massive line-up of planets in the water sign Pisces. Not only is the sun in Pisces but so are Mars, the North Node, Mercury and Venus. The rising sign of the lunar eclipse chart is also in Pisces! Water and earth are actually compatible in astrology; both elements seek security. However, with the earth element being so weak right now we could feel ungrounded and have a difficult time trying to focus. A popular phrase on social media right now is, “you need to go outside and touch some grass” meaning you’re spending way too much time on the internet and you need to put your phone down and get out in nature. In other words, you need to get grounded. This is a perfect phrase for this lunar eclipse.
Cosmic House: The 6th House is the angle on the cosmic wheel associated with the sign of Virgo. The 6th House is linked to health, habits and our everyday work routine. For some of us this lunar eclipse will be about breaking bad habits or at the very least focusing on our health. Regarding work, some of us may be completing a big project this week or we may be ending one job and going to a new job. Organization is also associated with the 6th House so it may be time to declutter our living space or our work space.
Modalities: With the moon in Virgo and so many planets in Pisces, the mutable modality is dominant. The modality gives us additional clues about the attitude and nature of a sign and mutable signs tend to be more adaptable and flexible. Instead of trying to make something happen during this lunar eclipse try to relax and let go a bit more. Try to go with the flow. Don’t be so quick to give up if one solution to a problem doesn’t work out, be open another solution.
Gems and Stones and Crystals: Amethyst, charoite and blue topaz can be very helpful during this lunar eclipse. All three stones can support you in accepting the present moment. Once you accept things as they and not as you would like them to be you open yourself to real change. Carnelian can reconnect you with your physical body and give you a much needed boost of energy if you’ve been feeling sluggish.
Have a great full moon lunar eclipse everyone and we hope to see you in the store soon.
