The moon will be new this Monday December 30 in the earthy sign of Capricorn at 4:27pm CST. This is actually a rare second new moon in the same month, the other new moon being on December 1. New moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the exact same degree, this is known as a conjunction in astrology. New moons are associated with new beginnings and it’s the perfect time each month to make new wishes and set new intentions.
Capricorn belongs to the earth element meaning this is a sign that places practicality, results, hard work and reality at center stage. Capricorn also belongs to the cardinal modality meaning this is a sign that likes to initiate things and get the ball rolling so to speak. Taking the element and the modality into account we end the year by tying up loose ends and put the finishes touches on your goals or to-do list. This year-end new moon in Capricorn gives us a head start in the new year’s resolutions department.
Each astrological sign has a planetary ruler and for Capricorn that planet is Saturn. In certain astrological circles Saturn is known as the Cosmic Taskmaster. Just like Capricorn the sign it rules, Saturn wants us to face reality and will not let us off the hook until we do just that. Saturn wants to make sure we clean up our karma and won’t allow us to take short cuts. On the day of the new moon Saturn will be in a square aspect to Mercury meaning these two planets are in difficult relationship to one another. The good news is the square aspect is separating meaning it’s beginning to lose it’s power. When Saturn and Mercury are in difficult aspect we may have trouble communicating with others including arguments and disagreements. With the two planets separating we can start to see our communication issues with others resolved. Another aspect of the Saturn/Mercury square is becoming stubborn in our thinking. Again, with the Mercury/Saturn square dissipating we can find ourselves and others deciding to change our minds on a situation that had been troubling us. We can start to view our situation from a different perspective.
Just like there are twelve signs in astrology there are also twelve houses. The houses are the twelve angles on the astrological wheel that deal with different aspects of our lives. Capricorn is the natural ruler of the 10th House; the angle of the astrological wheel that deals with career, reputation and recognition. The 10th House also relates to one of our parents (most commonly this house is linked to the father). So, the last new moon of 2024 may have us trying to resolve or work out our “daddy-issues”.
As mentioned above this angle of the chart also deals with career so some of us may be starting a new job or making a new year’s resolution to find a new job, ask for a promotion or change careers. If you’re trying to resolve “daddy issues” and you work with crystals; you may want to work with rose quartz, rhodochrosite or carnelian because of their healing properties when it comes to self-love and emotional strength. If you’re looking for a new job or want more money when it comes to career you may want to work with citrine, jade or aventurine; all three of the stones are law of attraction, abundance and wealth stones.
Have a great New Moon in Capricorn and we hope to see you in the store soon.
