The moon is on her way to being new this Sunday December 1 in the fiery sign of Sagittarius at 12:21 am CST. New moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in the exact same sign at the exact same degree, in astrology this is known as a conjunction. For this new moon both the sun and moon will be at 9 degrees of Sagittarius. New moons are the perfect time to make new wishes and set new intentions. As a side note, this is the first of two new moons this month; the second new moon this month will occur on December 30 in the sign of Capricorn. The day before the new moon is known as the dark moon. Our psychic vibe is on high during a dark moon so this is a good time to get some quiet time alone, meditate and self-reflect.
Sagittarius is a Fire Sign: Each of the twelve zodiac signs belongs to one of the four elements; fire, earth, air or water and Sagittarius belongs to the fire element. Being a fire sign means Sagittarius energy tends to be dynamic, warm, bold, enthusiastic and courageous. After last month’s deep and mysterious new moon in Scorpio where we had to look at the darker aspects of our psyche; the new moon in Sagittarius gives us a much needed boost of optimism, positivity and enthusiasm. Sagittarius is also a mutable sign; being a mutable sign means Sagittarius tends to be adaptable and open to change. With this in mind we can say a new moon in Sagittarius pushes us to try something new by getting out of our comfort zone.
Jupiter is the planetary ruler of Sagittarius: Each of the twelve signs is ruled by one of the planets and for Sagittarius that planetary ruler is Jupiter. In Roman mythology Jupiter was the king of the gods, in Greek mythology he was known as Zeus. Astronomically Jupiter is by far the largest planet in our solar system and in astrology Jupiter is known as the planet of good luck, good fortune, blessings, miracles, expansion, prosperity and travel. Jupiter is currently retrograde in the airy sign of Gemini. Jupiter went retrograde on October 10 and won’t go direct until February 4 2025. Gemini is about communication, intellect, curiosity and ideas.
While Jupiter retrogrades in Gemini we get an opportunity to rethink our plans and rethink the ways we communicate with others. If your plans have come to a standstill because of obstacles and delays there’s no need to fret, use this time to ask yourself if this is what you really want. Maybe you need to improve your communication skills. When you place special emphasis or act like the current Jupiter sign it increases your luck and blessings. When Jupiter is in Gemini you are blessed when you place an emphasis on communication and learning.
The 9th House and the New Moon in Sagittarius: Each of the twelve astrological signs are linked to one of the twelve astrological house and for Sagittarius that is the 9th House. The 9th House rules foreign travel, higher education, philosophy and mental expansion. If you’ve been feeling restless and stuck in a boring, mundane routine, a new moon in Sagittarius could have you planning a trip, maybe to an exotic or foreign destination whatever breaks up the monotony in your life. On the other hand some of us may decide we want to further our education; this doesn’t mean you have to get a university degree although it could include that but you may get the push to sign up for a class about a subject you’ve become interested in. Either way the motivation or desire here is to shake things up, get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Taking a risk is a Sagittarius specialty.
