The moon is on her way to being full this Sunday May 31 in the fiery sign of Sagittarius at 3:45am CST. This full moon is a rare blue moon meaning it’s the second full moon this month. This is a rare cosmic event, think of the phrase “once in a blue moon”. This is also being called a micromoon meaning this is a full moon that occurs when the moon is at or near its apogee, the point in the moon’s orbit farthest away from Earth. A micromoon will appear smaller than usual in the sky.

Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree. For this particular full moon the sun will be at 9 degrees Gemini while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Sagittarius at 9 degrees. We can have moments of clarity because full moons illuminate what was hidden. Since the moon is linked to emotions, moods and sensitivities, we can feel overwhelmed by our feelings during a full moon. In astrology the moon rules the general public so the current moon sign can give us clues about our mood and feelings.

Elements, Modalities and the Full Moon in Sagittarius: Sagittarius belongs to the fire element so we’re called to be bold, enthusiastic, spontaneous and energetic. Sagittarius’ modality is mutable meaning some of us will be called to get out of our comfort zone and take a risk. Be willing to try something new. Be open to new solutions to old problems. Lack of staying power and not finishing what you start belong to the shadow side of Sagittarian energy.

Cosmic House: Sagittarius is the natural ruler of the cosmic 9th House. An astrological house tells us what areas of life are most likely to be affected when a planet transits a particular house. With the 9th House illuminated this full moon influences things like travel plans, mind expansion, religion, learning, our beliefs and philosophies, gurus, college, publishing and faith.

Cosmic Couplings: Since this is a fiery full moon the fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and air signs (Libra, Aquarius and Gemini) will vibe better with this full moon while the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) and the earth signs (Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo) will have a more difficult time handling this cosmic energy.

Crystals: Turquoise is the obvious pick since it’s the birthstone of Sagittarius. Turquoise helps us to release old habits and patterns that are holding you back. Topaz is also linked to Sagittarius. If you need a boost of trust and faith topaz is a great pick for this full moon. Sagittarius is a sign that always gives it to us straight and to the point so if you’ve been struggling to express yourself blue lace agate is your stone. Lapis lazuli is another great pick if you’re looking to expand your mind or connect with your third eye.

Have a great full moon blue moon in Sagittarius and we hope to see you in the store soon. Take care.
