The moon is on her way to being full this Sunday October 9 in the fiery sign of Aries at 3:55 pm CST. Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree. For this particular lunation the sun will be at 16 degrees Libra while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Aries also at 16 degrees. Full moons can create a sense of tension and instability. Our goal during this time is to try and find a sense of balance. Full moons can bring situations to completion and they can cast light on what was previously hidden in our lives.

Keywords for Aries Full Moon

self, action, impulse, ego, confidence, spontaneity, vitality, dynamic, lust, energy, masculinity, directness, independence and heat.

Judging from the keywords we can see that an Aries full moon can be an action oriented lunation that stirs the pot. Aries energy can push us to take risks and try new things. Even if things don’t go as we’d hoped or planned Aries reminds us we learn some of our biggest lessons through experience.  Libra, the current sun sign, is associated with ideas opposite to Aries like harmony, relationships, composure, order, justice, marriage and idealism.  While Aries is about me; Libra is about we. During a full moon in Aries we may need to prioritize our needs over the needs and wishes of others.

Zodiac Facts:  Elements

Each of the 12 astrological signs belongs to one of the four element; fire, earth, air or water. Aries belongs to the fire element meaning this is a sign associated with courage, passion, enthusiasm and a little bit of theater and drama. Libra on the other hand is an air sign meaning analysis and thinking takes precedence over passion and feelings. So, if you’ve been in your head recently, the full moon in Aries could be encouraging you to connect more with your passions, feelings and desires. In certain psychological and spiritual circles this is called “getting back in your body”. Fires signs can also be highly intuitive so if you’re in a quandary about what to do in a certain situation instead of trying to figure it all out in your head, pay attention to how your body feels when you think about the situation. Does your heart race? Do you get sweaty palms? Do you get a pit in your stomach?

Zodiac Houses: 1st House & 7th House

The astrological wheel is divided into twelve slices called houses. Each astrological house rules a particular area of our lives. For this full moon there are two houses of utmost importance, the 1st House ruled by Aries and the 7th House ruled by Libra. The 1st House is the angle in our chart that relates to self and identity; this is also the part of our chart that contains the Ascendant or Rising Sign. The 1st House is how we project ourselves out into the world and it’s how the world sees us; some astrologers refer to this part of our chart as our social mask. Libra is linked to the 7th House of marriage, relationships and open enemies.

During an Aries full moon we can be locked into a battle of “me” (Aries, 1st House) vs “we” (Libra, 7th House). How can I be me in the company of another person? How can I be in a relationship and not lose my identity? Aries energy is more self-focused and doesn’t need others to define or understand itself while Libra energy is just the opposite; Libra instinctively feels two heads are better than one. We see this same scenario with the planetary rulers of both signs; Mars, ruler of Aries, has a more confrontational energy while Venus, the ruler of Libra, has a softer, more cooperative spirit.

The higher spiritual perspective of this full moon is both need each other.  Aries teaches us about the value of courage, boundaries and the need to be self-focused at times while Libra energy teaches us about the value of relationships, cooperation and sharing. Depending where you are on this spectrum right now, some of us may need to learn to be a bit more about being self-focused and standing up for ourselves while others of us may need to learn the lesson that opposing energies need to learn to work together through cooperation instead of competing with one another.

Astrology & Tarot: Three of Wands, Three of Swords

If you look at the tarot deck for amplification of this lunation we see the card represent the Aries moon in the Three of Wands known in the Thoth tarot as the card of Virtue while the Libra sun is linked to the Three of Swords the card called Sorrow. The Three of Wands says we get honest with ourselves about who we are and what we want (Aries); we can move forward with our lives because we have a sense of integrity, we don’t have to lie about who we are.  The Three of Swords card of Sorrow means we aren’t willing to sit on the fence anymore pretending we don’t know what we want. In fact we may have to make some difficult decisions (Libra) that others (Libra) aren’t going to like.  In fact, it may change or possibly end a relationship (Libra). Venus the planet of love and relationships is also in Libra and not far from the sun during this full moon reiterating the importance of relationships right now. Self-doubt is another aspect of the Three of Swords which is the complete opposite of Aries’ sureness of self.
