The moon is on her way to being full this Wednesday February 16 in the fiery sign of Leo at 10:56 am CST.  Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree.  For this particular full moon the sun will be in Aquarius at 27 degrees and the moon will be in the opposite sign of Leo at 27 degrees.  Full moons create a sense of tension, we can feel like we’re being pulled in two different directions and our goal is to try and find some balance.  Full moons can bring a process or situation to completion and cast light on what is hidden in our lives.

Zodiac Facts:  Leo & Aquarius

Every astrological sign belongs to one of the four elements and Leo belongs to the fire element meaning passion, enthusiasm and courage are of utmost importance.  Fire signs have a restlessness about them along with a passion and flair for the dramatic and theatrical.  This is doubly true for Leo because of the sign’s association with the 5th House; the sector of the astrological wheel that rules theater, creativity and self-expression.  This link with the theatrical can make Leo quite animated and expressive while in conversation.  The shadow side of Leo is their tendency to become addicted to thrill-seeking, excitement and drama.

Aquarius is an air sign meaning thinking, analysis and communication take center stage.  The Waterbearer tends toward the cerebral and favors analytic thinking over expression of their emotions.  In relationships Aquarians can have a difficult time sharing their feelings; one on one interactions can have them feeling a bit “cagey”; they also have a need for freedom and independence so Aquarius can be hard to pin down when it comes to commitment.

Each zodiac sign belongs to a modality.  In astrology a modality refers to the nature and attitude of an astrological sign and there are three modalities; cardinal, fixed and mutable.  Here is something Leo and Aquarius have in common; they both belong to the fixed modality meaning they both have staying power; they stay the path come hell or high water.  The shadow side of this fixed nature is getting stuck in ruts and routines as a way to avoid change.

Every astrological sign has a planetary ruler and for Leo that planet is the sun.  In keeping with Leo’s energy the sun is the star of the show in astrology, the most important part of your birth chart.  The sun, although referred to as a planet in astrology, is actually known as a luminary.  The sun is the “star” of the show that all the other planets revolve around.  Our sun sign gives us the feeling we have a purpose and a destiny to fulfill.

Uranus is the planetary ruler of Aquarius.  Being true to the eccentric energy of Aquarius, Uranus is the only planet that rotates on its side.  Uranus rules the strange and the unexpected.  Other keywords associated with Uranus are genius, rebellion, revolution, innovation and sometimes insanity.

Full Moon in Leo

Since we’re dealing with a fiery full moon we can say courage will definitely be a keyword associated with this lunation.  Leo is focused on the self, on “me” while Aquarius (current sun sign) encourages rebellion and revolution.  So, standing up for yourself or daring to be true to yourself in spite of resistance from others could be a key theme for this full moon.  This would be a good time to make a list of the fears that have been holding you back and preventing you from expressing your truth.  It may be time to do what Madonna (a Leo) encouraged us to do all those years ago; express yourself.  Both Leo and Aquarius encourage you to stand up for and by what is important to you.  If you work with crystals, Carnelian would be a great stone to work with this week.  According to Judy Hall in The Power Crystal Encyclopedia, carnelian stimulates courage and action.  It restores motivation and helps us turn dreams into realities.

As mentioned earlier the full moon creates tension because the sun and moon are in opposition.  The tension could be that we’re going back and forth about something.  We’re afraid to make a decision because we fear we’ll make the wrong decision. We’re caught in the trap of indecision.  If we linger in this space too long we begin to lose hope.  We start telling ourselves it’s not that important and we should just drop the issue.  Don’t make a big fuss we tell ourselves but make a big fuss we must sometimes; it’s how we learn and grow.  The spiritual text A Course in Miracles tells us that fear is a trick the Ego-mind plays on us to keep us safe but in reality this keeps us stagnant.  You don’t have to have it all figured out right now all you have to do right now is come up with one good reason to try something different.  Fluorite is a great crystal to work with when our minds are all over the place; fluorite brings calm, ordered thinking to a chaotic and fearful mind.
