The moon will be new this Wednesday January 29 in the airy sign of Aquarius at 6:36 am CST. New moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the exact same degree; this is known as a conjunction in astrology. For this particular new moon both the sun and moon will be at 9 degrees of Aquarius. New moons are symbolic of new beginnings; this is the perfect time each month to make new wishes and set new intentions. The day before the new moon is known as the dark moon, this is a time of letting go and clearing out. During the dark moon our psychic vibe is on high so this is a great time to get your oracle or tarot deck out and give yourself a reading for the coming month.

This new moon is also the Chinese Lunar New Year and 2025 is the year of the Wood Snake. As we all know a snake sheds it’s skin so this year is about shedding what you no longer need or want in your life. The wood element in Chinese astrology is about promoting growth, creativity and patience. The Snake year fits perfectly with the Universal 9 year in numerology. When we add 2025 together (2+0+2+5=9) we get a universal 9 year meaning this is a year of letting go, shedding what we don’t need just like the Snake year. Embrace your creativity, be patient and clear out what no longer works in your life. This makes space for inviting the new.

Aquarius belongs to the air element in astrology meaning this is a sign that places special emphasis on thinking, analysis, communication and making connections with others. This Aquarian energy is strong during this new moon because we have a line-up of planets in the sign of the Waterbearer; not only are the sun and moon in the sign of Aquarius but so are Mercury and Pluto. Experimentation and forward-thinking are keywords associated with Aquarius so this new moon is the perfect time to shock (another keyword for Aquarius) yourself and others by getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new. Originality is another keyword linked to the Waterbearer; so forget about trying to get the approval of others, “do you”. As astrologers Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox say in their groundbreaking book Sextrology, Aquarius is the Principle of Deviation. As the model of evolution of the species show us, survival depends on mutations that meet with the requirements for adaptation. In other words, in order for us to survive and stay engaged with life we must sometimes mutate into new forms.

Just like there are twelve signs there are also twelve astrological houses. The houses in astrology are the angles on the astrological wheel and Aquarius is the natural ruler of the 11th House. The 11th House rules our long term vision and hopes for our lives so making a vision board or writing down your hopes and wishes for the future is a great way to utilize this new moon. This isn’t just about your career goals; this is also a great time to think about what you would like to see happen in your relationships. What would you like to see happen regarding prosperity, love, creativity, family and spirituality. Groups, friendships, technology and the unexpected are also linked to the 11th House so any or all of these categories could take center stage during this new moon.

Pluto conjunct Mercury in Aquarius

On the day of the new moon in Aquarius, the very deep and powerful planet Pluto will be conjunct Mercury the planet of communication meaning our conversations can be deep, intense and transformative. Mercury/Pluto aspects can make us relentless when it comes to finding solutions to our problems. Our words are persuasive, powerful and straight to the point, no beating around the bush. We get straight to the point. A Mercury conjunct Pluto aspect has a very psychoanalytic vibe to it so we could find ourselves on “Freud’s couch” getting to the bottom and getting insight on some of our more troubling behavior patterns.

I hope everyone has a great new moon in Aquarius and we hope to see you in the store soon.
