The moon is on her way to being full this Tuesday April 23 in the watery sign of Scorpio at 6:49 pm CST. Full moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in opposite signs at the exact same degree; for this particular full moon the sun will be at 4 degrees of Taurus while the moon will be in the opposite sign of Scorpio at 4 degrees. Full moons create a sense of tension and we can feel like we’re being pulled in two different directions. Full moons are also a time where a situation in our life can be brought to completion.
Keywords and the Full Moon in Scorpio: transformation, depth, intensity, death, rebirth, secrecy, stamina, darkness, obsession, control, resentment, envy, possessiveness, desire, seduction and manipulation. Looking over keywords like transformation, depth, intensity, death and rebirth it becomes obvious that a full moon in Scorpio can be serious business. Go deep or go home is the mantra for a Scorpio full moon.
As mentioned earlier death is a keyword linked to the Scorpion in fact in most Tarot decks the Death card is associated with Scorpio. Gut-level honesty is an attribute of Scorpio and when we put that kind of honesty with the word death we can be left asking ourselves; what needs to die or is dying in my life? What needs to be released? Have I been in denial and afraid to admit that something is over in my life? In some situations you may no longer be in control and the only option is to surrender to a Power greater than yourself. A full moon in Scorpio means we have to get honest with ourselves on a level that can be emotionally raw and painful. We have to be willing to tell ourselves the gut-level truth.
Hades, Pluto and the Full Moon in Scorpio: Each zodiac sign has a planetary ruler and Scorpio’s ruling planet is Pluto, Lord of the Underworld in Roman mythology and he was known as Hades in Greek myth. During this full moon Pluto will be making a square (a difficult aspect) to the sun and moon. Pluto was an intense and mysterious god who was lonely and spent large amounts of time to himself until he abducted Persephone and made her his bride. Persephone in turn become the Queen of the Underworld. When Pluto makes an aspect to the sun or the moon or in this case when he makes an aspect to both luminaries, we can feel like we’ve been abducted, dragged down into the Underworld like Persephone.
Of course this Underworld is symbolic. When Pluto abducts us he is pulling down into the Underworld of dark moods and emotions like depression, grief or rage. These are intense emotions that can feel overwhelming but trying to escape them or run away from them won’t work when Pluto is involved. Transformation and deep change is Pluto’s agenda so our best bet is to sit with them, listen to them and make some attempt to try and understand what these darker moods and feelings are trying to tell us about ourselves and our lives.
In fact, we’ve experienced the effects of Pluto collectively as the United States just came out of it’s Pluto return. This means over the last four years Pluto returned to the exact same position it was in when the United States was founded on July 4, 1776. Over the last four years, we as a nation, had to look at what we truly value, what’s important to us and what needs a complete overhaul. Pluto’s aspect to the full moon in Scorpio says we need to do the same thing this coming week in our personal lives.
The number 8 and the Full Moon in Scorpio: Eight is an important number during this lunation. Scorpio is the 8th sign of the zodiac and is linked to the 8th House on the astrological wheel. Among other things, the 8th House is linked to the occult, mysteries and psychic sense. In the modern day astrological classic Sextrology, authors Quinn Cox and Stella Starsky link the 1970s toy the Magic 8 Ball with the sign of Scorpio. If you remember the Magic 8 Ball was a revealer of mysteries. We asked a question, shook the 8 Ball and the answer would pop up in the little window. I’ll take things a step further and say we can think about this full moon in Scorpio like a Magic 8 Ball; what do you need an answer to, what secret needs to be revealed to you?
Have a mysterious and good full moon and we hope to see you in the store soon. Take care.
