The moon is on her way to being new this Sunday September 25 in the airy sign of Libra at 4:55 pm CST.  New moons occur every month when the sun and moon are in the exact same sign at the exact same degree; this is known as a conjunction in astrology.  For this particular lunation the sun and moon will both be a 2 degrees Libra.  New moons act as a cosmic reset every month.  This is the perfect time each month to set new intentions and make a wish.  The day before the new moon is known as the dark moon, this a time of letting go and clearing out.  If you need to clear out a closet or a drawer this is the time to do it.  During the dark moon our psychic vibe is on high so this is also a great time each month to get out your oracle deck or tarot deck and give yourself a reading for the upcoming month.

Libra Season & the Element of Air

New moon in Libra keywords:  harmony, relationships, diplomacy, justice, idealism, grace, elegance, vanity, beauty, romance and refinement.

Each astrological sign is linked to one of the four elements; fire, earth, air or water and Libra belongs to the air element meaning analysis, communication and making connections take center stage.  So, we can see from just the keywords and the Libra’s element that our relationships can be a key theme during this new moon.  Some of us could meet someone, start a new romance or at least make some new connections.  Maybe there have been problems in an existing relationship and it’s time to clear the air and start anew.

Eleven of the astrological signs are represented by an animal or a human; Libra is the only sign whose symbol is an inanimate object, the scales, an object we use to weigh things. If we take Libra’s air element (thinking) and combine it with the symbol of the scales we can see decision-making as a very important aspect of this sign.  Libra’s want to make sure they weigh all the options and take into account all the different points of view of any given situation.  With this in mind some of us may be learning the lesson that we will never make a perfect decision.

Astrology & Tarot: Two of Swords

We can turn to the tarot card associated with this lunation for further amplification.  The Two of Swords is our card for this lunation and in the Thoth Tarot this card is titled Peace.  If we’re experiencing discord in our lives the Two of Swords says our first step is to get quiet and drop into a meditative state which means we just listen to ourselves and stop judging ourselves, our thoughts or others. What decision or action can you take that will restore your peace of mind?  In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck the woman in the card is blindfolded. One interpretation of this card would be we don’t want to look at reality, we’d rather stay blind.  Avoiding conflict will not bring about the peace of mind we’re looking for.  As a side note, the body parts associated with Libra are the lower back, lumbar region, kidneys and appendix.  During this new moon some of us may need to pay extra attention to and take better care of one of these regions of the body.

Zodiac House: 7th House

Libra’s planetary ruler is Venus the planet of love, beauty and relationships and the astrological house linked to Libra is the 7th House, the part of the zodiacal wheel associated with relationships, marriage, partnerships, open enemies and sometimes legal affairs.  Some astrologers believe the symbol for Venus is actually the mirror of the goddess Venus; known in Greek mythology as Aphrodite.  So, with this in mind, we could say; instead of blaming others for what’s going wrong in our lives we may need to take a long, hard look in the mirror.  Since both Venus and Libra rule vanity we might be too self-obsessed right now or maybe we’re focused too much on outer appearances.  As mentioned earlier, Libra and it’s connection to the astrological 7th House places relationships in the spotlight meaning we become more conscious of how we interact with the “others” in our lives.  Regardless of whether you’re married or single, a new moon in Libra reminds us we need others and we can’t always fly solo.  This is a time to work with others which includes taking into account another’s advice, input or opinion.  During a new moon in Libra relationships is where it’s at; we see the importance of those closest to us because they provide a sense of security and comfort.

Fall Equinox

In astrology the Fall Equinox each year is always the first day of Libra.  During the fall equinox the sun is mid-way between it’s highest point (Summer Solstice, the first day of Cancer) and it’s lowest point (Winter Solstice, the first day of Capricorn). On the Fall Equinox day and night are equal in length after this the days begin to shorten and the nights begin to lengthen. In 2022 the Fall Equinox occurred on Thursday September 22.
